The 46th annual CMA Awards took place at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on November 1, 2012. The year's biggest country music event was a raging success once again as dynamic performers such as Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Eric Church commanded the stage.
Another performer who is getting quite a handle on the stage as well is Hunter Hayes. Thursday night's show was Hunter Hayes' first time performing on the CMA stage, but even after admitting nerves earlier in the week, Hunter gave a great performance.
Seated at his piano and encircled by a crowd, Hunter Hayes sang his #1 song, Wanted. If he was nervous, he held it together well, giving a controlled and crowd-pleasing performance. His silky smooth runs, emotional connection and a momentary a capella line that reached out and grabbed the audience members' hearts across the massive auditorium easily put Hunter Hayes' first CMA performance in the huge success column.
Apparently, the same love he received from the CMA Awards audience overflowed from fans around the world as just minutes later, Hunter Hayes was named New Artist of the Year. The New Artist of the Year is entirely a fan-voted win, making the trophy in Hunter Hayes' hands even more of an honor.
Hunter Hayes' excitement was contagious as he bounded to the stage and said, "I don't even know what to do right now...thank you!"
"Thank the Lord for letting me do what I do!"
He went on to thank his fans and his family, stating that his mom and dad had done so much to help him get here.
Having begun a music career when he was just a small boy and working his way up, learning to play a multitude of instruments and perfect his craft, Hunter Hayes has indeed walked a very long road to get here. Now over 15 years from where he started, he's holding his first CMA Award and beaming with joy.
His sincere gratitude was felt by all as he closed his speech by saying, "I'm blessed beyond belief! Thank you!"
