Even with Tiger Woods struggling, the Americans managed a tie in the first session of the Ryder Cup.
The U.S. and Europe are 2-2 after Friday morning's foursome matches. Woods and Steve Stricker were in trouble from the start and lost 2-and-1 to Ian Poulter and Justin Rose. It was their third straight loss in match play.
Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell won Europe's other point with a 1-up victory over Brandt Snedeker and Jim Furyk.
Keegan Bradley came up big for the Americans, who were trailing in all four matches at one point. The Ryder Cup rookie made four clutch putts for birdie, including a 15-footer to clinch his and Phil Mickelson's 4-and-3 upset of Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald.
It was the first loss in foursomes for both Europeans. They had been 4-0 together, and Garcia was a career 8-0-1 in alternate-shot play.
Jason Dufner and Zach Johnson beat Lee Westwood and Francesco Molinari 3 and 2.
