Truth & Rumors: Woods welcomed Saturday sit-out


On Saturday morning, Tiger Woods rode the pine for the first time in a Ryder Cup. And, after going 0-2 Friday, Woods was OK with it, according to Ryan Lavner of the Golf Channel.

“That was the plan going into these matches,” Woods said Saturday night. “I put so much effort into that last match yesterday afternoon (a 1-up fourballs loss to Nicolas Colsaerts and Lee Westwood), and I was pretty spent. It was nice to get a little bit of rest.

“This is way different than the Presidents Cup when you have four days. Five matches in three days is a lot, and hey, I’m not young anymore. I’m one of the older guys. It’s nice to get a little bit of rest.”

Old Man Woods played in the afternoon four-balls, once again with Steve Stricker, and had more-or-less a replay of Saturday's Colsaerts loss: After spotting the Euros a big front-nine lead, Tiger returned to vintage form on the back, making five birdies but coming up just short.

He'll have plenty of time to sleep Sunday, too. DLIII is batting Tiger last in the singles matches. He'll play against Italian Francesco Molinari, the same opponent he romped in his 2010 singles match. Of
